  1. I didn't like writing the expository essay at all. It was hard and boring, I would have rather done two descriptive essays. But despite it being really hard for me, I just sat down and wrote one. I didn't feel that i was able to put forth my best work.

    1. I also thought it was quite challenging to write an expository essay because it requires more effort than writing personal stories, like our past essays.

    3. Descriptive essay was actually boring for me and I loved expository! Everyone is different tho!

    4. You're so right. I know exactly how you feel, but I'm sure it will get easier as the years go by. At least you know how much work you have to put into an expository essay now.

    5. Coming forth with the truth is definitely a redeeming feature I also had issues with this assignment but well what can you do it is life >_<.

    6. i agree, the explanatory essay a bit of a challenge.

  2. Test #3 was definitely a fun and great overall experience. However due to the very nature of an informative essay it was also a unique challenge due to the fact that I absolutely abhor the use of references and citations for my works. Essay writing is in general a hard subject to me because of my natural hate for using the conventional. If anything the best thing about these essays are how they prepare you for college level writing which is always a good thing. For today's activities class in general went smoothly without any hitch and through presentations I have noticed many also seemed to have problems with usage of citations and references.

    1. I agree, I like these essays only because they prepare us for other college level essays.

    2. It does challenge you but it prepares us for college level writing. It is a challenge that will benefit us in the end.

    3. It was a hard challenge, but challenges are always good.

    4. yup, t'was a challenge even I had hard time with the essay.

  3. I was somewhat prepared for Test #3 because I researched beforehand. I tried to space out my time and not procrastinate, but that didn't work out so well. I did my research a few days before writing my essay, but still wrote my essay last minute. It was difficult for me to stay focused on my topic because I just felt a lack of motivation to write. I also tried to change my topic about three times, which was a terrible idea. I thought today's activity was great! It's interesting to discuss our essays with each other.

    1. That is always a problem in writing essays like this. You always feel like your topic isn't good enough or you cant find enough information so you want to change it. But i'm glad you prevailed and got it done.

    2. Great job preparing for the test! I'm sure you still did a good job. Once you have the information down, it just comes together.

    3. It gets tricky cause you can never really tell if it is going to be a good essay or not no matter how much effort you put into it!

      Delete
    4. I used the same strategy too. I started early, but then for some reason i ended working on it really late.

      Delete
    5. I should have started on my research earlier. I probably couldn't have had much of a hard time.

      Delete
    6. I remember back in high school that when you have tons of research to work with, you have can organize that information in a clustering fashion to see where the research fits in your topic or whether it fits at all.

    7. sharing our essay's and reviewing what we each learned is definitely one of the most fun aspects of our test.

  4. First, bloating plus hiccups make a very painful double team. Second, Gas-X does not work. If you saw discomfort when I was presenting, that's why. Third, research can be very difficult and time consuming. However, using the RFK online database was very useful in finding legitimate, expert research works. By using this valuable research, I can be confident in my resources used. It is so much better than Google.

    1. I should definitely try to make use of the library!

      Delete
    2. It was not the actual library I used. What I used was the database found in UOG website under the RFK library. You can access it wherever you as long as you have a library card.

      Delete
    3. Hope you feel better. I hate hiccups. Anyways thanks for telling me about the RFK database. I will use it.

    4. I know exactly what you mean, but as long as you just research beforehand, putting it together could become so much easier.

    5. Aside from researching being a good thing, it does definitely take more time compared to the other essays that we've done.

    6. I guess it just always has to be a trusted source and that way, anyone can be confident with their research!

    7. Yeah, it definitely did look like you were experiencing discomfort, i thought it was because of the essay.

    8. ...what? hahaha sounds like you had a painful day. hope your endeavors were worth the trouble.

  5. Test #3 was a challenge but all challenges will always be accepted! I took the challenge and conquered it. The key for me was to take it really slow. I did not finish this all in one day. I kept chipping at it little by little. I did my introduction then did my second paragraph the next day. It was a day by day process but it helped me greatly. Finally after a week and a half, I got it done. Altogether it was a good learning experience for me.

    2. It was actually really fun! Yeah it was a challenge but you got it done so that's all that matters!

    3. I am going to try and do my next essay way beforehand that way i wouldn't have to worry about missing anything.

      Delete
    4. That's the spirit! If you can't conquer an essay, how can you expect to conquer the world? When the life gives you lemons, colleges gives you the tools to make lemonade and the means to threw combustible lemons back at life's face (if you know the reference).

    5. Your essay was really good Nick, great job! I should take your advice also.

    6. Your way of writing is really good. I should do that on the next exam.

    7. It's great that you took the time to overall to review and understand your essay. it is a great form of comprehension.

  6. Taking Test #3 was not a very easy test. It took time, patience and hard work having to research on everything for my essay. I thought it wasn’t absolutely difficult but it was something that I should not have procrastinated on. Well, lesson learned. So therefore, I was not quite prepared for it. Although today was the due date and we all discussed our topics, I thought it was nice how mostly everyone in class chose a different topic. It showed our personal interests and how we agree or disagree upon the particular arguments.

    1. I agree, it's time consuming to research and find appropriate facts for your essay.

  7. At first, I thought it was just another research paper, but because it has been a while since I write a research paper, I didn't know how much I loved it. One reason why I like writing an expository essay, is because of the researching process. For me, it is really fun having to look up facts and articles online about the topic. Another reason for my love for this form of essay, include learning new things in the process :)

    1. I think researching about a certain topic gives us more ideas to what we can input to our writing.

    2. I agree. I have a love/hate relationship with researching facts. I find it really cool to learn all these cool facts that I never knew about. It makes me more knowledgeable about things. The part that I hate is simply looking up the research. It takes a lot of time.

    3. It's cool to see people liking different things. if everyone liked the same thing then this world would be really boring.

    4. I agree, I also enjoyed writing researching. It really gives interesting and helpful information.

    5. When I was growing up, I liked to learn about trivial facts about animals. When I get bored and don't feel like playing video games, I would look up random subjects at wikipedia or on youtube. I can be quite the genuine nerd, but at least these habits make me appreciate research today. I don't love it, but at least appreciate it.

    6. I also agree, the information you obtain in interesting.

  8. Disregard my earlier comment, it was my bad. I thought that this essay was a real challenge, but challenges are always good. I also like to think that this essay is a good warm up for the next essay.

    2. I agree with you. Challenges are indeed always good as they push you to try and do the best you can. I think? But yeah. It also is a good warm up for the next essay since it will be our last.

  9. Writing an expository essay is a challenge for me. I have already known how to organize an essay, and I wrote free writing, brainstorming, and outline. Although it is harder than descriptive essay and narrative essay, we can improve writing skill. My topic is why teens smoke. I developed three reasons that teens smoke. I learned a lot from the expository essay. I found that I have a progress on organizing information and writing. I think it is a good challenge for me.

    2. to better organize your research with your topic for the upcoming argumentative essay, I would recommend doing a second session of brainstorming with what to do with your research. Clustering helps to connect the research with your topics so that you effectively refer to sources.

    3. At least you got through it and you understand how the whole criteria works. :D

  10. Test #3 wasn't all that bad. However, as much as i like to research about a certain topic... researching does take up more time in the process. I'm glad i started on my essay at least 5 days before it was due. Could've been earlier, but it happens. I almost forgot about work citing the websites i used, but other than that, this essay was okay. Of course, we should always strive to do better next time.

  11. Is this where we were supposed to post? Okay. Yeah, this essay was hard. It was really hard writing it so I held off on it until later. I waited too long though since I ended up doing it last minute, REALLY last minute. I learned that you are going to have to do a lot of research just for this type of essay and that there is no way to avoid it ever. EVER.

  12. Test #3 was very difficult compared to the other essays we have written. I guess the only thing that made it difficult for me was because I had done my essay last minute. Also, i think I could have written a better essay if I didn't procrastinate. These essays we write always comes with a lesson. Just like when we are doing research on our topic, we learn new things. Also, doing the essay last minute, teaches us strategies we can use for our next essay. Over all, I think it wasn't so bad. I just made it harder on myself by doing it at the last minute.

  13. I thought I was going to have a hard time writing this essay but surprisingly, even though I procrastinated with this exam, I still found it pretty easy to write. It was easy because the topic I chose really interested me. I enjoyed researching about what non material things make other people happy. It was interesting to read and get helpful information from them. It was nice to know that so much people today still value non material things than just money or fancy clothes. Some people's happiness can just be as simple as listening to music, or calm walk on the beach. All the material things in this world are temporary and it will not give us real happiness. Today's activity was fun. It was nice hearing what my classmates wrote about and what they learned while writing it.

  14. I found this essay quite challenging, but it was nothing I couldn't handle. Although I did the in class exam, I feel like I did pretty good. I was not quite prepared for this test but the stages of writing really helped out. Next time, i will study more on the topics and write better outlines because the outlines really help too. overall today was good. I liked listening to everyone's different expository essays and essay brain structures.

    1. Just a tip if your thinking about doing the in class exam, try using the RFK databases. You can access them if you have a library card in any computer. You don't have to waste time looking at every Google search because all the papers in the online databases are academically reliable.

    2. I agree, outlines are extremely helpful when writing essays, especially expository essays.

  15. Test #3 was pretty good and I learned a lot from it. Basically it is just like a question and answer kind of essay. I had to figure out most of the questions I thought of and explain it in my own words. It was difficult, but I managed to pull through. It helps if you study more about other topics and understand the situation. As well as listening or clustering can help further your research.

  18. Writing expository essays is not my style. There are a lot of processes including research, paraphrasing, and citation. It also takes more time to write expository essays than descriptive or narrative essays. For test #3, I was slowly relating to my topic, teenage stress, more and more. It was hilarious to be stressing about writing an essay dealing with stress itself. Nonetheless, I learned a lot from my topic like how to cope and manage stress.
I’m also slowly becoming more comfortable with presenting my topic, and like always, it was a lot of fun hearing my classmates’ topics.
