    5. Thus the title "Common Mistakes in Writing," these were the kind of errors that are easily overlooked and may go unnoticed. However now that we are in a college setting, these errors have to go when writing reports, essays, and theses.

  2. Based on the given link on grammar errors, it is actually a really useful tool and guide when writing our essays for this class. Because the page gave a lot of examples, it pointed out some of the mistake that i make myself when writing an essay. Guides like these was a must-have since we were assigned our very first Descriptive Essay. However, little by little and through out the semester, we become better writers and gain the necessary skills to publish or finalize a perfect piece of writing!

  3. That website provided above did help me with one of my weaknesses in writing. I always have a problem with commas. I tend to not know when to use them or when not to use them. The website showed me examples of when it is needed in your sentence. I saved the link and I will now use it for future references.

Today's activities consisted of writing a practice essay for the end of the year exam. I chose to compare the two particular topics. It definitely helped me with writing essays because practice always makes perfect.

    5. I think run-on sentences are a big problem for most people who write their essays. sometimes in inevitable that we forget to put commas.

  4. I thought the website was useful. I've been having some trouble with using hyphens, so I'm glad Dr. Rivera shared the website. The website lists some examples that are greatly misused by college students. I thought today's activity was great. I'm getting better at writing in class essays! It was a lot easier for me to write this essay than the past essays. I'm happy to notice my writing improve!

  6. The link given above was very helpful. It was a great refresher because just like other people, I still do make basic grammar mistakes. Just like the other blog entries I have read, I know I am not the only person who has problems with commas. Also, I have a weakness of when to use effect or affect. I tend to forget which one to use, but this site has helped me very much. Instead of constantly searching for it on the internet, this site as all there is to know about grammar.

    1. Right, I have the same tendency and probably use more commas than I'm supposed to.

    2. In concerning affect and effect, always remember that affect is an verb and effect is noun. Whenever proofreading, always look where these two words are placed in your sentences.

    3. Up until now, i still make a lot of grammatical errors as well. You're definitely not the only one!

  10. The link led me to a site that was really helpful. I think my writing could benefit from learning a thing or two from the website. I know that I will make mistakes, so I will just bookmark it just in case. Today's activity was okay, it was writing an essay. I actually had a ton of ideas for the essay, so much that i couldn't finish on time haha.

  11. The source was extremely helpful. I still make those same mistakes now and will probably make the same mistakes again so it's nice to see a compilation of them to reference in the future. I will make sure to bookmark it on my laptop. They will come in handy when I'm writing essays for other classes.

Again, I'm not very good at timed essays. I like being able to search the topic and be exposed to other perspectives before I write my own. I'm more equipped by then.

    1. I don't like time essays too, but we all have to get comfortable with it at some point. the semester is almost ending and we won't have much leniency as we do in our practices.

  12. I never thought sexist words were considered errors. I need to refresh my use of singular/plural agreement. I have a lot of problems with dealing with commas. It is such a versatile punctuation, that I lose track if whether I am using it correctly. I never used hyphens for words such as "college-student" and "high-school".

The essay was quite a challenge. I tried to connect book knowledge and experience as the same things in different perspectives. I used examples such as how authors write from experiences to write novels, or how scientists record data from their observations to write scientific reports. I even used the essay itself as an example to draw reflections of the experiences I had in EN-100 for the graders.

  13. The link that was provided gave me an idea on what kind of common mistakes that many people use in today's society when it comes to writing. I was surprised because, even if i have been writing essays for the past years there are still some things that i didn't know were considered an error when it comes to writing. I admit, i still make the same mistakes; but reading over this site is actually pretty helpful.

The essay was pretty good for me. I had a lot to say when it comes to using your experience as something you would gain your knowledge from. However, opinions may vary and it depends on other people on where they take in their knowledge from. However, my experience on today's class activity was a successful one.
