  1. An expository essay is an essay based on facts rather than opinions. From the topics listed I chose the stressors in teens' lives.I'm 18 right now and the stress is quickly creeping up on me. Now that I go to college, I have to focus on my education and make sure I excel my classes. I just graduated high school and I was not looking forward to another four (maybe eight) years of school. Just knowing that there is a 75% fail rate at UOG is pretty scary. School alone is weighing a ton my shoulders. As well as the price of gas is just going through the roof right now. I live in Yigo, so coming from Yigo to Mangilao and back everyday is burning my gas pretty quick. The stress of gas money is a pain in the butt

    1. I also live in Yigo. My house is close to the back gate of the air force base where the back road ends. UOG is too far. it takes me to get UOG about 30 minutes. I want a hybrid car to save money for the gas.

    2. Now I'm getting scared from that failing rate percentage. My Saturday class gives me the most stress than the other classes, and Sunday is my only full day to relax.

    3. You chose a good topic. Stressors in a teens' life? I guess we can be considered teens since we are still eighteen. A major stressor in our life would be college. Some can say managing a job and school or maybe even some people have kids.

    4. 75% of the students fail? i know i am part of the 75%.

    5. I totally agree with your reasons for picking that topic! College has been pretty relaxed right now but I know that its going to get harder. I also stress out about what I'm going to do after college. College is such a big step in everyone's life, not just teens.

  2. An expository essay is an investigative essay. It allows investigating an idea, and then evaluating the evidence you find. This type of essay allows the writer to be more creative. It is important that the conclusion does not restate the thesis but readdresses it in the light of evidence you have provided. You don’t want to introduce any new information in the last paragraph or conclusion. If I had to choose which prompt to write about I would explain why parents are sometime strict.

    1. I was thinking of choosing the same topic as you chose first, but I didn't. My parents are sometimes strict. The time when they are strict is when I am doing something wrong. it is my fault making them strict.

    2. I chose the same topic. my parents are not strict but if I am doing something illegal, they are going to get mad at me.

    3. I was thinking about picking that topic but I wanted to pick a topic that had more evidence on it!

  3. The expository essay is an essay about investigating, evaluating, and concerning an idea based on a fact. From the topics listed, I chose number six, explain why some cities have curfews for teens. It is dangerous for teens to go out late because there is a statistic that shows the crime rate such as rapes and drugs tends to increase during the night. There exist curfews to protect teens from the danger. My friend and I got caught going out late by police when we were in high school. We both had to call our parents and go home. We hated cops so much at that time. But, later, we found out that people who were around us when we got caught were doing drugs. My friend and I were lucky to get caught. Drug people might have done to us if we wouldn’t have got caught.

    1. I knew that you were going to choose this topic by my intuition. So I did not choose this on purpose. However, it is still similar to mine. I chose a topic, why parents are sometimes strict, but I also talked about curfews.

    2. I agree with you. It is sometimes not safe to be out having fun during the night, especially if you're not at a secure environment. I understand that parents just want to keep their kids safe. Anyways, there is always the weekend.

  4. An expository essay is an essay that requires a certain kind of research, which you need facts and not opinions. The essay needs to have a clear, concise, and defined thesis statement in the first paragraph. It also has to be clear and logical transitions in the essay. The reader must know what subject your leading to, if not, then the structure will misguide them to something else. The essay should be supported by evidence/facts, or you can not prove to them anything. You do not need to restate the thesis or add new information in your conclusion, but readdress the evidence that is already provided.
For the topic list, I would choose how music affect your life. The music I listen to got me to be a little bit serious, my attitude adjusted, and gives me a reason to stay strong.

    1. I like your definition of the expository essay. Music is so powerfull. I would like to study of what kind of music and how music affects humans' livies.

    2. Listening to music is one of the way to relax myself. When I get tired of everything, I just lay down and play songs.

    3. I agree, music can change the world. Especially when you're in the car and you have the radio on and then your song comes up. You just get happy, but if an annoying song come up that you hear all the time or just don't like; you change the music.

    4. You chose a good topic. Music is most definitely entertaining, but also motivating and soothing.

    5. I like your topic. Music can definitely influence a lot of people and I think that looking up facts on how it influences would be very interesting.

    6. music is what helps me some times to calm down. music inspires greatness.

    7. i like how the essay really needs evidence. i like doing research papers and including facts in my essays.

  5. The expository essay is a type of an essay that requires information, evidence, and examples to prove and evaluate an idea. Among the topics listed, I chose “Explain why parents are sometimes strict.” My parents are not strict at all since I turned 18-years-old because 18 is considered as an adult. So I have responsibility for all what I do. However, my parents were not strict compared to other parents even though I was under 18. Sometimes they got mad at me when I did not follow their rules. For example, they told me to be home before 10 p.m. but I came back home after 1 a.m. The reason why they got mad at me when I came back after the curfew is the probability of being involved in an accident during midnight is higher than the daytime, and there is a law that people who are under 18 cannot go out after 10 p.m. They did not want me to get in trouble.

    1. I chose the same topic. Maybe, your parents weren't strict because they know you are responsible. I would not know though, but you should.

    2. We are such twins. I was thinking of choosing this topic first but I did not. What you wrote is pretty much similar to what I wrote about my topic today. We are not under 18 anymore so we can go out and come back home anytime we want to.

      Delete
    3. My parents are partially strict. I understand though why parents can sometimes be strict, because they care for their kids and they're just making sure they're kids are safe. If they know you're responsible, I'm pretty sure they will trust you.

  6. An expository essay is an informational essay. It is not written using opinions. There are different types of expository essays such as comparing and contrasting, what are the cause and effects of something, defining, or explaining.

The topic I would use is Explain Why Parents are Strict.
My parents are strict because they just want what is best for us. They give us the freedom we deserve, but they also give us a limit. Now that I am eighteen, they trust me to be more responsible because I am considered an adult.

    1. Hey, we chose the same topic! My parents told me that they are trusting me. So I do not want to betray them.

    2. wow so many others have chosen that same topic. but i am sure they have some differences to share.

  7. An expository essay is an essay that requires investigation, evidence, and argument. It is usually in a five-paragraph format: an introduction, a three-paragraph supporting body, and a conclusion. The argument is accomplished through comparison and contrast, definition, example, and they analysis of cause and effect.

The topic i chose was, "If you had to be an animal, which would you be and why?"
If I had to be an animal, I would be a cheetah. I would want to be a cheetah because they are fierce, fast, and are mammals.I would want to apply these three traits to my own human self.

    1. that's cool you want to be a cheetah. cheetahs can hit 0 to 60 in three seconds. but their stamina is not as good as most people believe.

    2. i think its cool how you want to be a cheetah. you'd move really fast.

    3. I'd rather be a rabbit for a couple of reasons, one of which is my own and the other that I saw in a video-game ad.

First reason - I was born in the year of the rabbit.

      Second Reason: The video-game ad.

"Run as a rabbit and not as a wolf. A wolf runs for its food, while a rabbit runs for its life."

  8. An expository essay is an essay in which the writer can choose a topic and further elaborate more on the subject because the essay is based on facts rather than opinion which requires investigation. The topic that i would choose to write about is the "stressors in teenagers' lives." I would write about this being a teen and growing up takes a lot for a teen to realize and cope with. Also, being a teen, we will be able to point out the stressors in our lives.

  9. An expository essay is about having evidence and not your own views. To write an expository essay you need to be argumentative. Make sure to have the evidence supporting your argument. By using the five-paragraph format, it can be used to elaborate the specifics and facts of the topic. If i were to pick one of the suggested topics, i would choose, "explain why some teens commit suicide."

    1. I chose the same topic. I think it's a strong topic to talk about. Especially because we're all still at a young age.

  10. An Expository/Informative essay is an essay that is based on information that you research and find evidence on. This essay isn’t purely just your opinions but it is also blended in with facts about your topic. For my topic, I picked the major stressors for teens. I picked this topic because I found it very relatable and easy to give personal examples from my own life.
From today’s reading I found it very helpful and resourceful. I like the Writing Process Worksheet because it had a lot of useful and understandable information on it. I think that if anyone were confused that they could go to that page and easily figure out what they have to do.

  11. An Expository essay is when you explain your theory or reason. It is a five paragraph and as like all essays it has to be clearly stated. Also you will need evidence. In the conclusion you do not necessarily need to explain the thesis but you need to explain your evidence. In my essay I will write about the topic “Explain why you admire a particular person”. I chose that because there’s someone in my life right now, not only because of his actions but his personality. He inspires me to be a better person.

  12. An expository essay is based on factual evidence, concise arguments, and does not consist of opinions.

The topic that I chose is to explain why teens commit suicide.
Most teens commit suicide because of family problems, relationship problems, and low self-esteem issues.

    1. Dreadful, but ultimately truthful. As much as I joke about throwing myself in front of a stampede rather than putting up with a project, suicide is not a matter to be taken lightly in terms of those experiencing hard times.

  13. A expository essay is a type of essay that where the writer must state facts and not opinions. To put up a good argument, Investigating on the idea and gathering information is critical. Comparing and contrast, defining key words, analyzing causes and effects will help during the process of this kind of essay. I would select topic number 7 (Explain how moving from place to place affects teens) because I can relate to that subject. I moved from guam when I was four 4 and traveled from state to state meeting a lot of new people. Moving back to guam was the biggest cultural shock for me because I didn’t know any language besides english and so much was different than what I was normally used to.

  14. Killer Whales are not whales, under technical terms the U.S. has 46 states, and for a time beginning in the 90's Earth was mentioned to have a second moon.

If I were to write out an expository essay I'd go write one depending on the facts that the three subjects provided in this comment, considering that an expository essay is based on facts.

  15. An expository essay in an informative essay based on concrete evidence and facts, rather than personal opinions. It is also a five paragraph essay. Out off all the topics, "describe the major stressors in teens' lives.", was the one that really stood out to me. Being an eighteen year old teenager, I can definitely relate to this topic. Only a month into the semester and I'm already stressing out!

  16. An expository essay is an essay that explains the topic clearly to the reader. An expository essay provides information, arguments, and evidence for the particular topic. So basically an expository essay is there to explain whatever the topic may be.
For my topic I chose “why getting a driver’s license is an important event in the lives of many teenagers.” Getting your license is a mile stone in every teenager’s life. With it enables a person to gain their independents and at the same time makes you become a little more responsible. Being able to drive my own car and not having to rely on my parents to take me to the places I need to go really give me a sense of freedom knowing I can do this on my own. In my opinion obtaining a driver’s license are one of those things every teenager looks forward to getting because it makes the beginning of becoming a responsible adult.

  17. An expository essay is primarily assessing evidence, investigating data and ideas, introducing an argument and elaborating on the aforementioned in a clear and direct approach. The topic I chose is “why getting a driver’s license is an important event in the lives of many teenagers.” Attaining a driver’s license is a crucial occasion in a teenager’s life because it gives them their first real sense of independence. It allows them to take more incentive and liability in order to fulfill the responsibilities and obligations that come with being an adult. It is necessary in today’s day-to-day life to be able to have a reliable source of transportation. The demands of many things such as work, school, and even simple things such as going to the grocery store go hand-in-hand with obtaining a driver’s license.
