ReplyDeleteAn expository essay is an interesting essay, while on the surface it looks like you are just writing facts, with a little creativity you can be able to forge an essay that follows the guidelines of an expository essay and still be able to set forth an argument to persuade the the reader. The topic I would go with would be, "If you had to be an animal, which would you be and why?" I would choose this topic because there is much more research material on this than on the other topics. Today's activities were incredibly helpful, because of the exercise where we had to write supporting sentences for one topic sentence. Now i find it easier to write supporting ideas. The essay brain structure was not very amusing, I found it annoying when that guy was trying to rap the fresh prince's theme song, he got so many lyrics wrong! But it was okay, at least he tried.
ReplyDeleteI also had a great laugh when he began rapping the intro song to the popular series fresh prince. I hope we have more innovative choices during our brain stretcher.
DeleteThat was you saying the rap. I don't think Peter knows that. But that was a cool rap man, the fact that you made it up on the spot was nice. Just kidding. Thanks for a good laugh. it definitely made my day.
DeleteYou're right. Expository essays do and should have a level of creativity. I tend to forget about that when writing essays like that. My essays would end up as a dull listing of facts.
DeleteYour rap was really funny and, I enjoy the creativity that you put into your rap. However, just like your rap; we actually should add some creativity in our essays.
DeleteAn expository essay is one type of essay in which the writer describes in high detail a situation or an event through the opinions, views, and perspective of another person. An expository assignment would also be a compare and contrast diagram. Informative essay however, is an essay which gives of information of anything. For instance, an article that reads about the capability of a new model laptop. It includes information that was useful enough to inform the reader what the new laptop is like before they purchase it.
ReplyDeleteHappy writing, class :)
expand a bit more on your ideas and I believe you'll reach a convincing conclusion :)
DeleteYour ideas are good but elaborate more. I would like to hear more about how you would write about new laptops.
DeleteDon't forget on the emphasis of research and reliable resources to support your views and opinions. Accurate information is very important in comparisons.
DeleteAn expository essays is a genre essay that requires the student to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set forth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manners. An informative essay usually is a five-paragraph essay. An expository essay can be accomplished through comparison and contrast, definition, example, the analysis of cause and effect, etc. I will choose the topic "Explain why teens smoke cigarettes" because I am interested in this topic. Today's activities are interesting, and I like writing any ideas from the postcards.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see your enjoying the class as much as I am also don't forget to comprehend the definition and not just read it for what it is :)
DeleteI would want to know some research on why teens smoke cigarettes. That is a major problem in today's world. Also do some more research about vaping because that is the "in" thing now. I want to know about it both. It would make a great expository essay.
DeleteI agree. Today's activities were interesting and I also like doing brain stretchers. It's always a fun exercise.
DeleteI would like to do further research on why people smoke cigarettes. What is it about cigarettes that cause them to do the things they do, and why they choose to do it.
DeleteAn expository essay is an essay in which you compile information on a subject and deter the information by evaluating and developing the idea. It is in another way putting an essay together with information that explain the subject through listing cause and effect. I would choose for my topic explain why you admire a particular person because following my descriptive essay I have always looked up to the ideals of a certain individual and his principles of life. At last for today's events we went over our peer reviews and also reviewed the processes towards the 3 steps required to create an essay. Overall today was a well spent day
ReplyDeleteI would like to read your essay about how you admire someone. I like hearing how people have role models and I admire it when people take the time to appreciate other people when they deserve it.
DeleteYou defined what an expository essay is very well. I also like how you described why you picked your topic. It seems very interesting.
DeleteAn expository essay is a critically concise, and investigative type of writing. In other words, the essay must be prompt with information from each point of view the reader may be attached to. Also known as 'Compare and Contrast' or 'Cause and Effect.' An expository essay must be completely informative within all aspects of the thesis given. It must be an essay written in order for readers to understand the bold thesis and point of view the writer. It must support the writers objective of the topic.
ReplyDeleteThe topic I choose to write my Expository essay on will be prompt 13: explain how music affects your life. I decided to choose that prompt because I find it to be something I would enjoy writing about.
Today's activities in class provided myself with the ability to practice on my writing and the structure of making a supportive and consider paragraph. Not only was I able to construct a paragraph more thoroughly but, as we shared our work, it was nice to see everyone's different point of view as some of them wrote about the same topic. It is clear t see that we all have different understandings of the same type of topics. Practicing how to create paragraphs will help us all create our papers with a better understanding of the necessities of a good essay.
I would love to read your essay. You chose a very interesting topic. I agree, the writing exercises also helped me to write better essays.
DeleteIn order to achieve concise writing, the facts should be rock solid. Opinions and beliefs are not satisfactory. Dependable resources should be used.
DeleteIt's always great to write about topics we know. When we are genuinely interested in a topic, we tend to write so much and we actually enjoy writing the essay.
DeleteThat's a great topic for you since you love your music!
DeleteThe expository essay is an informative essay. You have to pick a topic and get a clear argument about it. You need a lot of information and get all sides of your topic. Be very informative about it all. I would choose the "Describe the major stress in teen's life" because I can relate to the topic so much. We are all stressing more at our age than our parents did. The expectations in school are higher and society makes it so hard to fit in. There are many more things like friendships, relationships and family problems.
ReplyDeleteToday's class lesson was super fun. We had to choose a topic and write a paragraph about it. I felt like it was so easier writing it out than before. I am getting better at writing and making it flow so well. It makes writing for me fun. I'm looking forward to evolving more as a writer
You chose an interesting topic. I agree, It seems that a lot of teens today have a lot of things they stress about and partly because of school and society.
DeleteUnfortunately for me, I'm still a bit slow with short term writing. Also, you don't necessarily need a lot of information, but you need to have reliable information from reliable resources. Picking stuff from the Internet can be convenient, but also risky. Anyone can put just about anything about everything. One must have a good idea who is writing the material and how reliable is this person.
DeleteI agree with Faith. You chose an interesting topic, something all people our age can relate to. Hopefully I get the chance to read it..
DeleteI agree, the pressure put on teens today is much higher than it was before.
DeleteAn expository essay is a type of essay where the writer is supposed to dig deeper with the information given. They should broaden their ideas on that certain topic and have the right facts to back it up. This type of essay is also based on comparing and contrasting a certain main idea. As well as how you can analyze the topic and what its cause and effect are.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to write about a topic for my expository essay, it would be about “nonmaterial things that make me happy.” I’m pretty sure that there are so many non material things that make everyone happy. We just don’t really see the value of something because we are so caught up on other things; fore say our cell phones and other material objects.
Back to today’s activities, I really prefer writing about a topic I’m familiar with. I’m sure anyone agrees, but it’s just so much better to write something based on your experiences or from a topic that you are familiar with. We also got the chance to do our peer reviews with whoever our partners are. And, the essay brains stretcher was pretty fun as well. It’s always nice to just write down whatever we think about a certain picture or topic.
There is also the aspect of creativity that should be of concern. While the facts come from other reliable sources, you should make your essay your own. It should not be simply a list of facts.
DeleteI agree, it's always interesting to see what we, the students, come up with for the brain stretchers!
DeleteAn expository essay is an essay that requires the writer to do research on an idea and based on its evidence, the writer will begin an argument concerning that idea based on facts. By doing so, the writer can compare and contrast or analyze its cause and effect. Basically, the writer's purpose is to inform the reader on a specific idea. If I were to write an expository essay it would be on explaining why getting a driver's license is an important event in the lives of many teenagers. Majority of us have all gone through this stage in our life. I'm sure we also had those little arguments with our parents about how important it is to get our license. It was a stage in our lives that made us feel independent and it was a stage in our parent's life that we were growing up too fast. So, that is why I would choose this topic. I can definitely reflect more on this topic.
ReplyDeleteAs for our class session yesterday, I wasn't designated to share my paragraph and neither did I experience peer review, but I would like to mention my experience with the brain stretchers. Usually, an assignment like that, I probably spend more time thinking of what to write then actually writing. Since we have started brain stretchers, ideas just easily come to my head. It's like some type of relaxation. So, I really enjoy our brain stretcher assignments.
Ideas really have been just been popping through my brain. I really enjoy our brain stretcher activities because it helps us look at a particular object and just come up with whatever ideas we have in our minds.
DeleteI like how you explained what an expository essay is, clear and specific. And I agree, brain stretchers have been a great help.
DeleteThat's a great topic! I remember how excited I was to get my license.
DeleteExpository essays are scholarly work which expresses ideas backed by evidence. Support is key to a topics success and reliability as a legitimate information. Thus, valid and extensive research is a must for writers.
ReplyDeleteTrying to do my paragraph exercise brings out my weakness in poor development in a limited amount of time. i do not work under pressure well, so I decided to do all my tests at home with all the time in the world at my disposal. Brain stretchers are becoming easier for me, or perhaps this particular activity was easy because it involved the Philippines.
Ah yes, before I forget my topic for my expository essay will be why teens want to join gangs. Yes I know, I am writing about gangs again. I just find the topic interesting for me.
ReplyDeleteI found that you always write about gangs during class, now I know why. That's good though, you have much to say and a lot of background for the upcoming test.
DeleteAn Expository essay is a kind of writing that informs the readers facts about the topic without including the writers own opinion. The information given about a particular topic should be defined and explained. Examples can also be given to support the points. The topic I would choose would be “Describe some nonmaterial things that make you happy”. I choose this topic because I know that I can do a lot of research about it, and I can also use real life examples for it. I always find writing essays challenging but I'm glad that there are activities every class that helps me do better. Today’s activities were fun and I also find it very helpful in writing. Brain stretchers are always something I look forward to.
ReplyDeleteYes, brain stretchers are always the highlight of the class and something we all look forward to.
DeleteWith expository essays, the author's goal is to persuade their readers to believe what the author is saying. To achieve that, the author needs to include factual or logical evidence, supporting details, and just the right words to sway their readers. A successful essay leaves the readers agreeing with the author or at least raising questions and concerns towards the issue.
ReplyDeleteMy topic would be on "If you had to be an animal, which would you be and why?" It seems like a really interesting topic, and I get to be creative.
My favorite activity in class is the brain stretcher. It gets our creative juices flowing and we also get to hear everyone's thoughts. I especially enjoy hearing the funny ones like Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
An expository essay is an essay in which a writer has to look deep into a topic. It includes cause and effect and a clear and concise argument. When writing an expository essay, a writer should include evidential support that leaves the audience with complete understanding. I would explain the consequences of having alcohol on campus for my expository essay because there are an abundance of facts about the effects of alcohol. Alcohol is an interesting topic i'd like to discuss further. The activities we did during class were, like every class, very intriguing. I believe that the exercises we do in class helps my writing skills.
