A narrative essay is more like telling a story in your own perspective. The way you see or hear things describing a story. When writing your essay it should be clear and should include all the parts of a story. From the topics listed i chose; my first day on the job. This technically isn't a real job, but more of an internship. However, to me it counts as my first job because I got paid in grade credits and I got the same treatment just like the rest of my co-workers. I was working at a medical center for my high school nursing class. To get some type of early experience as a nurse. Although I had terrible work hours, I had enough time to work with patients and experience the health workforce. My first day at work was on a Saturday, so it was packed full of patients. I showed up to work eager and willing to work. My first patient was a young boy who had the flu. I performed the daily routine, from blood pressure, to respiration, pulse and next was oral temperature. I had the thermostat ready to go and now was just the patient. I knelled in front of him and as he was about to open his mouth, he sneezed on me! All of his germs went to my face. I couldn't run to the bathroom, couldn't scold him or even walk out of the building. I had to wipe his germs off of me and pretend everything was okay. It was an awful experience that I had to deal with on the first day of the job.
ReplyDeleteIt is always a good thing to have early experiences. Being a nurse seems to be really hard for me. I respect those who work for other people.
DeleteThat's awesome you were able to have experienced that first-hand, especially at a young age... although not so much getting sneezed on.
Deletei agree that when writing an essay you should be clear and include all parts of the story.
DeleteIt's good that you have got experience of being a nurse. It's also good that you have tolerance. I can't tolerate germs, even thought it is almost everywhere.
DeleteI've done the same thing, but for Marketing in high school. I did the Work Experience program which was a good job experience.
DeleteYou have great experience. I have been working since I was a junior in high school but my purpose of working is just for money.
DeleteA narrative essay is to write a story of something. It can be about a real person, someone’s experience, or etc. A narrative essay must include a purpose, characters, setting, a clear perspective, and consequence. I would select number one, All about you because it is easier to write and tell about my story. Moving from a place to another place is a sad experience. I was born in the state but I moved to Japan right after I turned one-year-old. I also had moved several times while I was in Japan. I lived in Kumamoto Prefecture for eight years, Okayama Prefecture for six years, and Chiba Prefecture for two years. Every time I moved to another place, there was a farewell. I had to leave my friends behind. It was so sad. I still sometimes miss them when I think about them. I hope I will see all my friends whom I left behind someday.
ReplyDeleteIt was my second online class. It went smoother than last time because I already knew where to go. I learned so many things today too. Writing, revising, and editing a draft are so important to write an essay. I will keep them in my mind in order to improve my writing skills.
It's becoming a little easier to write now since I've learnt about revising and editing. That's hard though moving from one place to another. Saying goodbyes are tough man.
Deletei feel the same way when i left the states last year. i don't even know when i'll be going back, but hopefully i will see them soon.
DeleteIt sucks having to move and saying good-bye to your good friends. I've been there before, but things do get better eventually. I miss my friends who are in the states, but we still keep in contact.
DeleteI never really had to leave island so i am not familiar with good byes. but i think if you stay in contact with your friends. good byes wont seem so bad.
DeleteI really sympathize with you about your essay. It is a sad moment when I have to leave my friends. However, the saddest moment is when we realize that we forgot about each other.
DeleteI've never experienced leaving my friends but instead I've experienced seeing people off and it really is hard to say good bye.
DeleteI got to give you a lot of credit, it is really hard to say good bye to friends, especially when you know you won't be seeing them for a long time. I have a hard time saying bye to my friends even when I know I'll just be seeing them in a few hours or even the next day.
DeleteLeaving friends, especially child-hood friends are the worst! I hope one day you'll be able to reunite with them.
DeleteA narrative essay is a story that can be written in a creative expression, but as long it has a clear point of the idea. It includes the same parts of a story, the character(s), the plot, the climax, and the conclusion. If this essay is being used for a book report, then you do not need to follow the pattern of the story, but it does need the idea of the story.
ReplyDeleteWhen writing a narrative essay, make sure there is a point. Without a point, then what are you narrating, or if you are narrating? It is good to make the essay have a clear point of view and using clear and concise language. The topic list, I would choose number 4. Back in August 2012, I was really surprised that I was moving to a different school. I used to go to Harvest Christian Academy, but I went to St. Paul throughout junior and senior year in high school. On the first day, I felt really different wearing St. Paul uniforms instead of Harvest. I did not recognize myself wearing them. After a couple weeks at St. Paul, I've realized that it made me feel more free than Harvest, for Harvest is strict in a lot of things.
I think that I know how you felt being told that you were moving to a different school because I moved to different schools in the past. I felt different or weird wearing new schools' uniforms. I felt anxious at the same time too because I knew no one at new schools. these thing I experienced are now good memories of my life.
DeleteI have never moved from one school to another. So I can't say I understand how you feel about that, but I know it would be a little weird. Adjusting to new situations and different people. Almost like my first day of college.
DeleteI agree with you about how Harvest is really strict! I remember we were classmates at Harvest for a pretty long time!
DeleteI understand how you felt when you transferred to a different school. I experienced the same thing in the past. It never felt so good.
DeleteDo all schools on Guam have uniforms? Its so strange to think that you can change schools I remember wanting to change schools thinking other schools were better then the one that I went to but that meant moving very far away. Basically my pre-k class mates were the same people that I graduated with not many moved away and not many moved to our small town.
DeleteNarrative essay is a way to write essay artistically and creatively. We can write about fiction, experience, gossip, etc. Among the lists, I chose this topic, your first day at a new school or college. The reason why I chose the topic is I have terrible experience at the first day of high school. Actually, my first year of school was tragedy because I was transferred to high school in Guam from Japan, even though I really could not understand English. At that time, my English level was completely zero. I could say only yes or no. However, I could not understand what they were saying so I could not even say the two words. I had despaired of the school life on the first day. I had no friend to ask for help. I was lonely in a crowd and watching people who were with their friends. I felt like I was in the hell. It was just sad. I was jealous of the people.
ReplyDeleteMy first day of school was terrible too. Ben and I moved to Guam with our family right after we graduated from middle school in Japan. Our dad put us in public high school even thought we couldn't speak English at all. I remember I almost got depressed but I never gave up. I will never give up on college either.
DeleteWow that's tough. Let alone moving to a different region is hard enough and now not being able to speak the native language. That takes hard work! Well, it looks like you guys are now more comfortable with the english language. Hard work and dedication will be worth it in the end.
DeleteI can sympathize with you, It is very difficult to say the least to transfer to another school; what more to another country. The cultural differences alone can be extremely debilitating. Although, eventually we do adjust and adapt to our circumstances, which ultimately cultivates our conformability.
Deletewow. i can some what relate to that because i moved here for my senior year in high school and it sucked. i had no one to go to for help and i too watched people with friends but along the way i made some here and there.
DeleteWhen I had moved to a new school, I was jealous because everyone grew up with their friends and they have so much memory. Whereas my friends I grew up with, were on this island. It's good to be home. I know it's hard being new to a school. I hope you are doing fine now.
DeleteIf you still feel like the new kid without friends. Don't be shy to chill with me.
Deletehead up man. your english is pretty good coming from your situation. keep up the good work.
DeleteJust as it is stated, a narrative essay narrates, just like a story. It allows students to be expressive and creative through writing. Just like a story, there are certain aspects to include, which are: an introduction, plot, characters, setting, climax, and a conclusion. This essay should have meaning and a point to make in an understandable point of view, where the reader can know "who" is talking. Narrative essays use descriptive words that can educe both the readers emotion and senses. Lastly, always be organized. There should be a beginning, middle, and ending. This gives readers a view of what starts and where it should end without giving cliff-hangers.
ReplyDeleteThe topic of my choice would be: "Your first day at a new school or college."
During my teenage years, I relocated abroad with my siblings for schooling. My parents thought it would bring great insight and a deeper appreciation for our accustomed way of living. As an American living in the Philippines there was already a stigma attached to us. Apparently women in America are "liberated," a term used in the Philippines (or at least in my school) to refer to a woman as a "hoe" it was difficult going into a school with many preconceptions. Initially I did not have many girl friends, they would constantly belittle me in their own language and it was very apparent I was not well received. As time went by, my classmates got to know me and things quickly changed. School finally became enjoyable.
i agree that when writing a narrative essay you should include the plot, characters, setting, climax and conclusion. those pointers will be great when writing an essay.
DeleteWell written summary of what we read. Those were some pretty mean girls you had encountered. There are pros and cons of moving to a new school.
DeleteThat's good that things had changed. Being singled out is not a good feeling.
DeleteSo easy to judge a book by its cover, a movie by its title, and a personality by the clothes...
DeleteA narrative essay is more like a story. There should be a purpose and should be stated clearly. Using “I” in the narrative essay will most likely be used. Always have a thesis statement like In all essays. For my essay I will most likely writing on the topic “all about me”, I think that it will be easy because I can write anything about myself and even tell a story and have a purpose.
ReplyDeleteWriting an essay about yourself is easy. Good choice.
DeleteEasy topic. To think about it, I should've wrote about that.
DeleteUsing "I" in a narrative essay is welcomed. And I agree that we should always have a thesis in all essays. I also chose the same topic from the list because it would be easy to write about myself.
DeleteI agree with you. I think that it is easy to write an essay about myself. Everyone knows about his or herself well.

ReplyDeleteA narrative essay tells a story. This type of essay gives students a chance to be expressive and creative. The parts of a narrative essay are introduction, plot, characters, setting, climax, and conclusion. The essay should be clear and straight to the point. Also make sure your essay is in chronological order.
ReplyDeleteI deleted my other comment because I wasn't sure if the topic we chose the topic we had to do for test two, so I changed mine.
The topic I chose is "A memorable journey."
A memorable journey I have had was going to San Diego, California. I had caught up with family I haven't seen since birth, so of course I did not know them. Living in the mainland had also opened up my eyes that there are more opportunities there. Also, that the education there is great. I admired that San Diego was a melting pot. There were many people with different ethnicity. It is also close to home because there are many Filipinos and Chamorros there.
I agree, sometimes I wish I stayed back there because of the opportunities they offered.
DeleteOne day when I get old I hope I get the opportunity to go to San Diego, California, I heard it's really beautiful back in the states.
DeleteThat's why i've always wanted to at least visit San Diego! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay there.
DeleteI only spent a month in San Diego at the beginning of 2014. I wish that I was able to spend more time and reconnect with more friends it is a giant melting pot!
DeleteA narrative essay is used when a person is telling the story. It’s either experiential, personal, and allows you to express yourselves in creative ways. If the essay is written as a story, it should include a introduction, plot, characters, settings, climax, and a conclusion. The essay should have a purpose, should be written from a clear point of view and should always be organized. From all the different topics, I chose “An encounter of someone or something you were afraid of.”
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 15, I was staying in Washington, Tacoma. My family and I loved to go sight-seeing and going on family trips. So that summer, my family and I all went down to this amusement park called “Family Fun Center”. As we were walking around, we came across this really huge swing that was so high it was higher than the Family Fun Center building. My older sister was really anxious to ride it and as for me I was hiding because I know she was going to force me to get on it with her. She eventually found me and literally put me in the seat. I was so scared yet I was laughing because of what she did. I was so afraid of heights and this swing wasn’t helping at all. I thought I was going to die while up in the air. When the swing started swaying back and forth and higher and higher, my adrenaline went up, but I went along with the ride and put my hands it the air. After I got off, I thought I was going to be scarred for life, but I loved it and I wanted to get back on again.
That ride sounds fun. The only ride I went on similar to that was the Tower of Terror in California.
DeleteI don't think I'd be able to ride that! I'd be way to scared to go on it! I love Washington but then I think that a lot of people from Guam love Washington! haha
DeleteMomilani that rides sounds really fun and I cant wait to ride it when I get a chance to visit Washington. I remember last month when my friend Kristina wanted to go down to Tumon and ride the Viking ship. When you are standing it did not look so bad so I gave it a shot. I'm glad I got a chance to ride it because I do not think ill be getting on that ride anytime soon.
DeleteThat sounds like I would be anxious to ride it as well. But I am also an adrenalin junkie and love heights once I get up there.
DeleteNarrative essays help authors talk about what they feel and share his/her experiences. The author can talk about experiences that happened with friends, families, significant other, places visited etc. As long as the point is clear and brings the reader to an understanding of what was read. Unlike free writing, narrative stories must have an introduction, plot, characters, setting, climax, and conclusion. I think I will enjoy narrative essays more than free writing because I enjoy sharing my past with others. With narrative essays, I feel it is a solid way to do that.
ReplyDeleteThe topic I chose is, “an encounter that changed my life.” When I was a child I was exposed to a lot of rage, hatred and depression. As a child, whenever shit hit the fan, the only place I felt safe was my room. With doubt in my head that things will get better, I always tried to hope for happiness to escape the sorrow. As I got older, my room was no more a safe haven for me and I was always forced to leave the house and walk around the village till things simmered down. With so much reason to leave the house and little incentive to go back, I felt I was running out of places to escape from all of it. While consistently roaming the streets, I felt this is where I would end up for the rest of my life. Then after four years of roaming, I encountered a good friend. I now call him brother, because his kindness gave me safety in a home, peacefulness in my own room, and stress free from dusk till dawn. This encounter gave me the opportunity to make something of myself: to start college, pursue a career, and to finally live my life differently and more positive.
Your blog was really moving. I'm sorry you had to go through something like that. Things do get better and I'm glad they have for you.
DeleteSounds like you had a tough time. But i'm a little envious of your courage to share something like that. That's a trait that makes a great writer.
DeleteYour blog was really touching. I think that it is great that you are willing to share this experience because you never know who might be going through the same situation that you went through; your essay could help them see that life isn't all bad and that there is hope that things will get better!
DeleteA narrative essay is basically writing a story; this essay could be based on real people, an experience, or even something you just make up. A narrative essay allows the writer’s creativity to be shown or even just way he could express himself. For my narrative essay, I’m going to write about a trip from my childhood. I picked this topic because I know that I’ll be able to write about a lot of adventures I had on my trip.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read stage three of the writing process, most of the information was not new to me but it was a good refresher. I think writing the rough draft is a really important step in writing a paper because that is where you can see what you need to fix or change to make it more interesting to the reader.
I'm a little disappointed that the narrative essay portion doesn't have a fictional story choice. I dislike writing about real-time experiences, both past and present.
Deletei would love to hear about your trip from your childhood :)
DeleteA narrative essay is a prose that tells a story. It should include the introduction, characters, settings, plot, climax, and conclusion. There should be a clear overall purpose of the story (thesis). It should be concise, with language that would create emotions and imagery. First person point-of-view is welcomed in writing a narrative essay.
ReplyDeleteThe topic I chose was "One minute of a football game."
Last Saturday night I was invited to watch a football game between the Father Dueñas Friars and the Southern High Dolphins at the Wettengel Football Field in Dededo. It was one minute into overtime, with the scored tied at 6-6. Within the minute, the Friars' runningback "juked" the last remaining Dolphin, allowing the Father Dueñas Friars a victorious touchdown and win.
Today's lesson was about stage three of the writing process, which is revising and editing. This stage focuses on the rough drafts that work to create the finalized piece. Revising leans towards organization and overall content, while editing leans towards common grammatical and spelling errors. I am finding the online sessions rather easier now, but I still prefer in-class meetings only because lectures help me understand better.
Your topic shows that you have grasped the main concept of today's lesson. Applause is in order.
DeleteA narrative essay is something like telling a story. And it can be any kind of story but most often, at least with this class, it seemingly requires one to present a past experience. Something I'm not accustomed to just yet. But the steps in writing a narrative essay are different from the past lessons this class has thrown at me.
ReplyDeleteA narrative essay is essentially writing to tell a story. Writing a narrative essay allows the writer to express themselves freely from their own point of view. We all have an aptitude amount of memories that are now experiences worthy of being shared with readers. However, when written as a story, the narrative essay should include an introduction, plot, characters, settings, climax, and a conclusion. Details included into the story should all relate to the main point the writer is attempting to make. Using clear and concise language is emphasized. I pick (Your first day at a new school or college) because out of all the topics displayed I can closely relate to this one being that I’ve been to 9 different schools not including college.
ReplyDeleteTo me, a narrative essay is an essay in which the writer can express his or her's way of telling a story. A story that means a lot to the writer and should be told to others. A narrative essay is meant to tell a story and it is meant to allow the reader to feel adaptive to that story. I would pick the topic of " A memorable journey" because the memorable journey for me is my life. Yes, we are still living, but this journey is still on going, but every bit of history within my life is memorable. everyone will have a memorable journey but everyones' journey is not the same which makes each and every one of those journeys unique.
ReplyDeleteA narrative essay is like describing a story, person, place, event etc… in your own words. Parts in a narrative essay include introduction, plot, characters, setting, climax and the conclusion. The essay should be clear and easy to easy to read. The topic I chose is “A Memorable Journey”. One of my memorable journey was when a group of my friends and I went on a hiking trip to Sigua Falls. At first they said it was only about an hour and a half hike down to the falls. After two hours I finally realized that the hike was way longer than what they told me. We shared jokes, laughs, and we had a great time strolling down the trails. I don’t really like hiking, so you can imagine the joy I had getting to the falls. The only hard part of the trail was when we had to climb down a steep hill, luckily they had ropes and a lot of trees for us to use to grab onto climbing down. When we finally got down to the falls the water was so nice and it felt so good to relax a little after the long hike. I sat back with my feet in the water and watched as my friends swim and some jumped off the rocks into the murky yet cooling water. Soon it was time to go and we were all sad to leave that beautiful place. The hike back took a little longer than expected because the trails where muddy and slippery due to the rain that fell. Over all our trip to Sigua Falls was a blast and it is one trip that I will remember for a lifetime. One thing I learned that day is to pack a lot of water whenever you go on a hiking trip.
ReplyDeleteAlways hydrate! That hiking trip sounds fun. I hiked MT Fuji and found that I brought to much water and was stopping out group every 15 min for a bathroom break.
DeleteA Narrative Essay is when you are telling a story. It could be something real like a biography or something made up like a science fiction novel. You have an introduction, plot, climax and characters and then a conclusion. It’s a way to be creative. I chose an historic event in light of September 11th. I remember the day very well I was in Homeroom in Ms. Andersons class with my best friend at the time Ashley, we were talking about the party that we attended that weekend before attendance was taken. When Mr. Mcaff walked in the room and whispered to Ms. Anderson. After they spoke briefly Ms. Anderson made an announcement that a united airlines plane hit the world trade center. She turned on the old box television set that sat collecting dust in the corner. As the other home room classes filled in and we watched the other tower get hit. Some fellow classmates left the rooms crying, they had families that worked in the towers. My fathers Brother Mark worked in the first tower, at the time I didn’t know that he was on vacation and nowhere near the towers. Eleven years ago and I still remember the conversation with Ashley and her reaction to the collapse of the towers, but I cannot remember what I ate for breakfast last week, September 11th 2001 is a day I will remember forever.
ReplyDeleteAn argumentative essay is an essay in which you pick a topic and in order to get your point stated you must do research and gather as much info as possible to generate a thought or point. I would pick to write about "Every state should enact a divorce counseling law that requires married couples to go through counseling before being granted a divorce". I choose this because my parents are divorced and its not fun. Having to grow through that at a young age is very unhealthy because mixed feelings come upon yourself. I think that a married couple shouldnt get divorced at all but sometimes things change and yes counseling should be considered cause the couple got married for a reason.. why end it?
ReplyDelete
