I find that I will write run on sentences. I will read what I have written out loud and that will help me recognize run on sentences. In addition I enjoyed hearing about my classmates views on their topics.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed hearing too. By the way, this test was the hardest essay to write among those four essays we have done.
DeleteReading aloud does help to avoid run-on sentences. Today was fun as well.
DeleteI too enjoyed hearing about my classmate's topics. i actually liked this test. Though i did do it last minute. I'm just glad that i got it done.
DeleteI've never thought about reading out loud to help! Thanks for the idea!
DeleteIve never tried reading aloud. I think i will try and do that now. Thanks for the tip. looking forward to it
DeleteThe essay was hard, for I had a little trouble putting the facts in the right order. I had to make sure my paragraphs make sense and persuade the reader.
DeleteReading it aloud does really make all the difference, thanks!
DeleteVisiting the URL was a good opportunity to review what run-on sentences are. We should avoid run-on sentences because it is hard for readers to read and understand what it is written about. I tend to write run-on sentences sometimes, especially when I translate my thoughts from Japanese to English. But, I sometimes make it too short as a sentence too.
ReplyDeleteI tend to also write run-on sentences. I try not to get let it be a habit. When i read my essays, i always catch them. Then i notice where i keep writing run-on sentences then i just fix them.
DeleteReading run-on sentences are confusing. Also reading short sentences is not enough information.
DeleteI must be harder for you to think in another language and then translate it into another. The work that you have done so far is great and I hope that all of us keep improving.
DeleteI agree with bethany. It really must be harder translating your thoughts into another language. I give you props for that!
Deleteaddition: I got my PEA back. It is great to know good things about me. Thank you for giving me positive words.
DeleteI already knew what run-on sentences were, but the URL gave me more knowledge of it. Knowing more than one language is cool. Sometimes I write run-on sentences without knowing it.
DeleteIt was a good opportunity for me, too. Every time I write something, I try to avoid run-on sentence.
DeleteIt must be hard, but you're doing great with speaking out loud to the class!
DeleteWe should avoid run-on sentences because if several sentences are combined in one sentence, it would be hard to read and understand the meaning of the sentences. Concise sentences are easier to read and understand than long sentences. 4th exam was the hardest one among the four major essays. It took really long time to write an essay because I was required to do research for my topic. I was not sure about how to write Work Cited. I hope I did not do wrong anything on it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. it would be hard for readers to understand if several sentences are combined into one sentences.
DeleteRun-on sentences are confusing to read. Sometimes it gets difficult for me to write a complete sentence, however, reading aloud helps.
DeleteI think that the 4th exam was pretty easy. Though i did have to research the pros and cons towards same sex marriage. i learned a lot while reading about them.
DeleteI agree to avoid run-on sentences. For this last essay it was a bit harder for us to do because it is not based on experience, but on factual information.
DeleteRun- on sentences are hard for me to avoid, because I talk like that in person. I haven't realized it when I speak, but when I write it is very noticeable. Today's activity was fun. To hear other peoples topic was interesting.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about run-on sentences, especially because I can talk forever.
Deletewhen i talk, i feel like all i do is run-on sentences. I forgot to breath or i just keep talking and talking and forget to pause. I find it funny when i catch myself.
DeleteI try to avoid run on sentences while writing. It is difficult for me to stop and think if I have to many ideas in one sentence.
DeleteIt is hard for me to avoid too, especially when I translate Japanese to English. I will try not to write run on sentences.
DeleteToday's activity was fun. I was surprised that this exam was easy for someone.
DeleteI am very humbled by the remarks that my classmates have made about me. This will defiantly help me on my down days in college. I feel discourage on how late I am finishing college. I hope that I get to know all of my classmates in the coming year in other English classes.
ReplyDeleteI can also use these positive thoughts on my days that are not going my way. And you should not feel discouraged, but happy because you chose to actually go to college. It is better to finish college late than never.
DeleteThe positive reinforcements from our peers is really encouraging and you should not feel discouraged. Its not about how long your journey is but that you have achieved it. You got this!
DeleteDon't feel discouraged about how late you are to finish college. At least you made the decision to stick through it. It will be worth it in the end :)
DeleteI also stated late unfortunately, but never late than never right.
DeleteRun on sentences are not a good habit to do, when you are writing an essay. It helps you not sound like you are talking without a pause. A lot of us talk with run on sentences, but we try not to. It is a good habit to not write run on sentences, when writing an essay. So try to avoid them. Today’s activity was okay, hearing about other classmate’s topic. I enjoyed writing this essay, because I got to read about what people thought about same sex marriage.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's really not a good habit especially when writing. I also learned more about same-sex marriage, as well as divorce
DeleteAvoiding run-on sentences could get difficult, but with practice and reading aloud what you wrote, helps.
DeleteWell i forgot to talk about my PEA, but i am really happy what people said about me on here. It actually made my day. Thanks to everyone who had the chance to write on my post it. :)
DeleteI like shorter sentences because it is easy to read and understand for me.
DeleteA short sentences will kind of make it feel like if it is a summary in a way, but I am already fine with it anyway.
DeleteI found that URL useful and I agree that proper punctuation can help understand the sentences better. It was interesting listening to my classmates and their topics. And I also enjoyed the PEA activity. It was nice knowing that my english classmates had positive thoughts towards me.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. I totally agree
DeleteI have a bad habit on writing run on sentences, it is just common and seems like talking. Sometimes I forget to go back and fix it. The PEA activity was interesting and it was peculiar to see what my peers think of me. For today, listening to everyones topic was interesting and this paper was fun to do and do research on.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the research part of the argumentative essay as well. I was very inspired by the PEA comments.
DeleteI have learned that I usually write in run-on sentences without even realizing it. I never really understood what run-on sentences actually are, until reading the examples. The link was useful because I now know more about proper grammar when talking and writing.
ReplyDeleteI also tend to write run-on sentences without knowing it. I also now know more about about proper grammar. We are getting smarter every class!
DeleteFrom now on, I will review if there are run-on sentences every time I write sentences.
DeleteI also share the same problem with unknowingly writing run-on sentences.
DeleteI used to have problems with run on sentences but the high school I went to focused on it a lot. Run on sentences used to be really complicated to get at first but as I continued to work on it the easier it got. I really liked hearing the different topics everyone picked.
ReplyDeleteThe PEA activity really made my day other day. We should do these more often because everyone needs some encouraging words. It was very heart warming for me and I'm sure it was heart warming for others too.
DeleteI feel the same with the run on sentences but I still have a little problems with them.
DeleteAlthough I missed listening to everyone's topic, I'm pretty sure they were interesting. Our class is majority of the time interesting.
DeleteI forgot to write about PEA. I am surprised and happy. I did not expect that someone put a Japanese word, Kawaii. Thank you guys for writing good things about me.
ReplyDeletethe PEA was great. I was surprised as well. i was surprised when i read the card because a lot of nice things were stated.
DeleteI really liked them too. I think its really nice that our classmates have such positive things to say about each other.
DeleteThe PEA active was fun. Good to know people think positive of others.
DeleteThe PEA was a fun activity. It's helps with self esteem and it makes it more comfortable to present on front of the class.
DeleteAvoiding run on sentences is very important. Often times, it can confuse the reader. I am at fault for writing run on sentences. That is why it is also important to review your paper before turn in. Today’s class was interesting, as each individual presented their essay topic.
ReplyDeleteWe also conducted a PEA card activity yesterday. Someone wrote down " looks like a lion/wolf!” on my card. I am not going to lie, but I seriously laughed in my head when I saw that. Overall, the activity was interesting.
DeleteI agree with you that avoiding run on sentences is important. Anyway, I liked the PEA activity.
DeleteWe should avoid using run on sentences because while writing an essay it will be pointed out that it is a run on sentence. I have a hard time with avoiding run on sentences and my blog now probably will have a run on sentence. When we speak in person we don't really catch the run on, but typing or writing can easily be spotted. I thought the PEA card was very nice and awesome because it feels good to be complimented :) I thought the topics that were discussed today were great and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI also have a hard time avoiding run on sentences. I also agree that we do not catch run on sentences when speaking. I also feel better about the positive thoughts that were given to us. Everyone's topics were interesting.
DeleteRun on sentences are always hard to catch at first. I really liked the PEA cards too!
DeleteI agree everyone had great topics.
DeleteWhen using run on sentences, there is no pause and it makes it harder to even say the sentence. We talk with run on sentences, but most of us don't when writing our essays which is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteArgumentative essay was the hardest for me because it's not like I'm talking about personal experience which is much easier. It's more of researching and summarizing. The PEA activity was surprising because I didn't think I had all those qualities. Overall, today's activity was great.
I thought this essay was pretty hard too. I don't like looking for sources.
DeleteI agree, citations are not ideal for me.
DeleteToday's activates where really great!
DeleteCiting the sources was the difficult part for me. I hope I did well on this test.
DeleteThe PEA activity helped boost my self-esteem. It is a great way to receive positive feedback and turn it to motivation.
ReplyDeleteFrom a personal perspective, It was a great way a very interesting.
DeleteThe PEA was very good. I agree with the self-esteem boosting because i felt the same.
DeleteI agree. It feels great to get all the positive feedback.
DeleteMost of my positive comments was about my t-shirt I worn on Monday, it is not a real comment, but it is still considered funny.
DeleteFor my PEA, people wrote "smart" on my paper. I was shocked because usually in my other classes; I'm not as smart as you think. This PEA was interesting though because apparently I'm also punctual, informed and focused. I should major in Criminal Justice or a career that involves those talents.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who is planning to take that major, for he wants to become a cop.
DeleteI think you should too.

ReplyDeleteI know before I had a bit of trouble with run on sentences. I know we should avoid using run on sentences in writing essay or even a letter.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed listening to all the topic that everyone presented today.
I loved and enjoyed reading all nice comments you all wrote on my PEA card. You all are pretty cool and chill classmates...
You're welcome. I really enjoy having you in my class.
DeleteYes, our class is pretty cool and chill. This is one of my favorite class this semester.
DeleteWe avoid run on sentences because it's what we have been learning since elementary. Also, if you have a run on sentence, it would not make sense. You would want a pause in a run on not only to breathe, but for the sentence to make sense.
ReplyDeleteThe argumentative essay was difficult for me because I forgot how to cite my sources.
It was also difficult for me to declare my side on the essay because I see pros and cons for both sides.
The PEA was a good activity. It shows us traits we may not believe or may not see on ourselves.
I agree with you, the argumentative essay was difficult to write, but at the same time it was also fun.
DeleteAvoiding run on sentence will help prevent misunderstanding the idea. Without the comma, then what is combined or separated. The PEA was actually fun, but Sinagang is not a real comment. Today's activity was good, I chose to do the in-class test, so I guess I was prepared. The argumentative essay was my toughest essay I had to write.
ReplyDeleteThe URL was actually refreshing. I do still forget to punctuations and can have just one sentence be a whole paragraph, especially when i'm in "the zone". The PEA was pretty funny and enlightening. Sometimes college can be extremely stressful, so reading positive feed-back was very uplifting.
