Reflection - Sept. 3 - Sec. 7

Share your thoughts regarding today's activities. (Re: Writing Process: Stage One, Exploring/Experimenting/Gathering Information, narrative essay review)

  1. I learned many new things today. The writing process: stage one. I learned about the 4 different strategies. Free write, brainstorming clustering and gathering info. I liked the freewriting exercise because there was no wrong or right answer. You just keep writing. For brainstorming the big six questions on pg.8 really helped me. Clustering I learned to make a double bubble map. It’s more for the visual learners which I am. Lastly gathering info was more of a refresher of the last lesson. Underlining, annotations, and taking notes.

  5. We have learned stage one of the writing process. We have discovered that there four strategies that help with the writing process. Free write, which is writing anything and everything that pops into your head. The importance of just to keep writing weather it be meaningless words or even words or even words at all just to keep writing. Brainstorming is the second strategy that we went over today. The Second Activity that we did was the big six questions and the listing. I found this activity fun because I wrote about my favorite TV show that the season premier was last week.

    3. I felt the same way about that activity too. Writing the first thing that pops into your mind just to get the ideas flowing was not only helpful but fun at the same time. Thanks to your free write I think Im going to start watching that series.

  7. Today in class I learned about free writing and different ways of drafting. Free writing being about just jotting down what comes to mind without editing or making major changes. By just simply express your thoughts. Different ways of drafting was brainstorming, listing, and the big six questions. Learned that with these different ways I can find a new and more effective way of writing down essays, summaries, or reflections.

  8. This class period was a good refresher on the different ways to get your ideas out on paper aka Brainstorming. We didn’t learn about the clustering yet but I looked at it and I think it’s a more fun way to brainstorm your ideas. I also liked the freewriting activity. It was a fun way to just write down the way you view certain topics and it is interesting to hear what everyone else has to say. The Big Six Questions was also another very easy way to look at the main topics of your paper.

    1. Free writing seems like a good way to start a short story or novel. I'll have to use it more often.

    2. The six questions are very helpful and its actually not the first I have heard about that method of brainstorming. Although it was a good refresher.

    3. I think clustering won't be so bad, but we do probably need to review it. It would also be helpful when we would need to write an essay.

  9. Good Afternoon folks, to carry on with my free-writing assignment I am typing out this post without looking at the screen. I should've made my suvjext about typing skills. If I make any mistakes I'll just leave it here. Just trying to make a point. Or at least I think I'm making a point. My neck hurts.....

  10. In today's activity, we went over stage one of writing. It consisted freewriting and brainstorming. I feel that the freewriting activity was a good exercise in writing. It was really helpful. I also liked that some of us shared what we wrote. Sharing can also help us be comfortable when speaking to a crowd.

  11. It has been really helpful for me today. We have discussed about strategies such as free writing, brainstorming, clustering, and gathering information. I think that these strategies are important when we write essays. Get a prospect of my essay in the free writing process and think about what I have gotten in the first process. Then, gather information to support and compose and support my essay. That is how I have understood about the strategies that we discussed today. Please correct me if I am misunderstanding. Thank you.

    4. I agree with him. Maybe because I am his twin brother and we think the same way about almost everything. Anyway I try not to ask questions when you are working on something.

  12. It was a great refresher lesson on the first step of the writing process. When I begin writing a paper I always find myself blankly staring at my computer screen for hours at a time. I know I'm not the only one with this writers block struggle either so learning even more ways to brain storm on different topics both given and selected is really helpful. Hopefully with this knowledge the writing process would come a lot easier to everyone too.

    1. This was a great lesson to get me out of the writer’s block. As you said staring at the blank computer screen is what I struggle with and just putting the words down. These four strategies help.

  13. In today’s class I’ve learned about freewriting, brainstorming, the big six questions, and listing. I’ve always liked the idea of freewriting. I can jot down exactly what comes to mind without editing. I also learned that the two basic forms for brainstorming are asking and answering questions and listing which can be really helpful when doing an essay.

  14. In today’s class I thought the most important thing that we went over today was the free writing exercises we did. The Free Writing exercise helped us to write down what was on our minds based on a certain topic. The gathering of information from our free writing helped because it allowed us to look more into the main details of what we wrote and it will help us with extending what we wrote for future free writing exercises.

  15. What I have learned today was very helpful for me. We talked about stage one strategies in the class. Now, I know how to do freewriting easily. The lesson was understandable. I could finish exercises that we had in the class. Sorry for making you guys feel unpleasant by my terrible reading.

    2. It was helpful for me as well. Free writing is the easy part. Brainstorming is a tough one though. I understood you. Your readings are improving from what I can tell!

    3. As your brother, giving you a comment makes me feel weird. We have to help each other in that class. But, don't ask me a question when I am writing or doing my work. I need to concentrate. I will try not to ask you any question when you are working on something.

    4. It was helpful for me too. Free writing is getting easy and becoming fun. For the most part I understood you on your reading.

  16. Today’s activates where really helpful. First we learned some stages of writing a paragraph. It was really interesting because I never learned how to do any of these stages before. Then we learned freewriting, I really enjoyed that topic because I didn’t really have to think about what I was writing all I had to do was write what I had in my head on paper.

    1. It's such a relief for me doing the free writing process because like you said you don't really have to think so much on what your going to write. Instead you just get to let your ideas flow onto the paper whether the information is beneficial to your paper or not.

      Delete
    2. Freewriting was a good exercise of writing because we can get all our ideas down on paper and then fix it properly after we have got an idea of what we are going to write.

      Delete
  17. Today we learned about the first stage of the writing process; focusing more on freewriting and brainstorming. Personally, I liked freewriting more than brainstorming. I prefer just letting my ideas flow rather than listing or asking questions. However, if I ever get stuck I think I would just answer the "Big Six Questions." For some reason, when I try listing ideas, it just worsens my writing block. This lesson was helpful to me because I find that the hardest part of writing an essay is figuring out what to write about. The second hardest part would be the conclusion. Hopefully we will learn some strategies that would help.

    1. I agree with you, I feel more comfortable with free writing as supposed to listing down ideas and answering questions. Although eventually your going to have to narrow down your ideas it just makes it easier.

    2. I totally agree with you as well. I like how I can jot down what I feel and want instead of editing my paper or having it proof read.

  18. Today we learned on how to free write and gather information. As we free wrote we discussed what was on our minds, how we felt or just let the words flow on the paper. As well as brainstorming six questions to help talk about the main topic. It was fun and interesting to do and see what others had wrote.

  19. This lesson had a lot of improvising today. I had to write a free write in one exercise in under five minutes. I chose the topic, ' most important event of my youth.' I wrote about my twin puppies I had adopted when I was six years old. They taught me the responsibilities of having a pet and made me experience my first loss. It was a tough exercise but I enjoyed it.
